DNSchanger is a DNS hijacking malware. The malware infects
the computer system by changing its DNS entries, in order to point towards its
own fake servers and injects its own
advertising into WebPages.
Criminals have learned that once they get control over
the user’s DNS servers, they could access sites which connect users. With DNSchanger virus,
the criminals can connect a user to a fraudulent website and can interfere with
the user’s browsing.
How the DNSChanger malware works:
The DNS (Domain
name System) malware converts user
friendly names, such as guardiannews.com into internet protocol addresses which
is used by computer to communicate. So
each time you enter guardiannews.com, your system takes the numeral code IP and
sends it to the DNS which connects your computer to the website.
Once the
malware attacks a system, it takes complete control of the DNS. Once they get an
access to the DNS, they can control the sites through which the computer connects.
This makes computer vulnerable to other
malwares and threats by interfering user’s browsing.
How to check and remove DNSchanger?
Like any
other virus DNS changer buries deep
inside the OS and cannot be detected easily. You may wipe the hard drive
completely and reinstall the operating system. Before you do so, don’t forget
to maintain a backup of your important document. You must also check your
router if you have one for the DNS settings.
The DNS virus has many versions. It is not possible
that a utility will detect and delete
the malware from all operating systems. So it will be better to choose an
antivirus program which suits your need. Running a trusted antivirus regularly
and scanning your system is always a good habit to avoid DNScharger virus or any other threat.
